Christina has a keen interest in mental health, work-life balance, and gender equality in science. In her spare time she's in the golden gate park spotting cute pups.

Martina de MajoMartina is a third-year postoc in the Department of Ophthalmology. She investigates the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders. Martina is passionate about issues concerning bullying and harassment within academia. In her spare time, she likes to sing in choirs and as a soloist.

Jamie ByrnesJamie Byrnes is currently a third year postdoc in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. When not using proteomics and protein engineering to probe immune cell function, he enjoys hiking with his wife, walking his dogs Minnie and Lenard, fishing, and home brewing. Jamie is interested in the postdoc training path and the unique challenges encountered along the way.

Ruchira SharmaRuchira is a postdoc in the Manoli lab in the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Department. She is examining the neural circuits responsible for affiliative behaviors in the socially monogamous rodent model, the prairie vole. She writes about her experiences as an immigrant, her life and her thoughts about the postdoc experience.

Miho TanakaMiho is a second year postdoc in the department of Microbiology and Immunology, investigating mechanisms of resistance to cancer immunotherapy. She is interested in aspects of mental health during the postdoc experience, such as stress and the impostor syndrome. Miho laughs joyfully at absurd scenarios in surreal humor and low budget movies.

Arja RAYArja is a 3rd year postdoc studying cancer immunology at UCSF. He is a bioengineer by training and studies the environment around tumors to stop its spread and find treatments through immunotherapy. He is interested in applying learnings from science to chart a path of rational decision-making in society and politics.

When free from the computer, she enjoys swimming, hiking, and running an unsuccessful YouTube cooking channel as a lazy cook. She is interested in looking into researchers’ multiple sides.
